The invention

Sanquin has pioneered an innovative patented method for filtering pathogens from blood, primarily bound to red blood cells (RBCs). This groundbreaking technology offers a promising approach to treating sepsis early and effectively. The critical first clinical study is about to start.

The position of CEO

As the CEO, you will spearhead the development and execution of the overall business strategy, with active support from NLC Venture Builder and collaboration with the inventor and strategic partners.

Responsibilities include:

• Fundraising (dilutive and non-dilutive)
• Overseeing product development, including clinical trials, technical development, and regulatory aspects
• Initiating the go-to-market strategy
• Leading and collaborating with the team to ensure efficient execution of the strategy and alignment with company goals

CEO competencies and track record

You are highly motivated to make a meaningful impact on patient care while driving commercial success. You are known for being:

• Entrepreneurial, driven, hands-on; mindset characterised by high sense of urgency, resilience, creativity, and a willingness to take calculated risks is crucial for success in a dynamic startup environment.
• A connector with strong networking and influencing abilities; this includes a broad network of contacts in the healthcare industry, including key opinion leaders, clinicians, regulatory agencies, and industry partners.
• Possessing excellent communication skills, including presentation and negotiation skills

Your experience includes:

• Professional experience that embodies the required competencies and demonstrates a track record in medical diagnostics including (pre)clinical development and commercialization
• Strong preference for experience in the sector of blood management and/or blood products; ideally knowledge of apheresis
• Carried overall responsibility for a company, business, or (development) program
• Track record in M&A, raising finance, and/or realising exits
• Academic qualifications, preferably a technical background
• Experience working in a dynamic startup environment with a proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, innovative settings
